Agile Development Management and Agile Project Management Tools

In the Fall 2008 release, we have extended our support of large organizations in V1: Agile Enterprise. 

Sprint capacity planning, flexible project tree management, and simplified member administration highlight this release. In addition, we have improved the usability and performance of grids via a series of inline add and edit capabilities.

Capacity Planning: Allocating Team Members’ Time & Availability by Sprint


Enterprises that need detailed availability planning by team member can enable Capacity Planning in V1: Agile Enterprise. This option enables team members to allocate availability, accounting for time off per iteration. Specifically, this capability:

  • Lets each team member account for time away from the project during the iteration for vacations, holidays, training, or other commitments by assigning the accurate time available to the project for a particulate iteration.

 

 


  • Alerts teams if the amount of planned-out work for the upcoming iteration exceeds the projected capacity for any team member or the entire team as a whole.

Enhanced Project Hierarchy Flexibility

To help project setup, projects and releases can now be created without specifying an existing sprint/iteration schedule. This update allows organizations to get started quickly on a project and make sprint/iteration scheduling decisions later, when better information is available.

Additionally, our project hierarchy is even more flexible now with the ability to move projects within the tree.  While the project tree can be set up to support your organization’s structure and business needs including any number of projects, releases, departments, or customers, the project-move feature ensures the hierarchy remains consistent with your evolving organizational structure.  Regardless of how the project tree is set up or changed, the configuration will flow through the entire application including tracking and reporting.

Simplified Member Administration

Managing project membership is even easier in larger organizations via two new features:

  • Through a multi-select option, administrators can quickly assign multiple people to a project at once

  • The role of Member Administrator separates the ability to add and manage team members without providing access to system configuration settings.

The new Requestor role provides a request management capability without allowing access to in-progress project work.

Time-Saving Inline Add & Edit

Now you can quickly add and edit multiple stories (aka backlog items or requirements) and defects directly into application grids without opening a new window. We have also added the ability to double-click directly on a column heading in any grid to immediately enter / exit Edit mode for that column without having to launch the customization menu.

Free Third-Party Tool Integrations

Continuing our tradition of providing all integrations at no additional cost via the VersionOne Community Site, VersionOne is pleased to announce the following integrations:

HP Quality Center
The VersionOne Quality Center Integration (V1QualityCenter) provides a two-way flow of information, allowing an organization to leverage its investment in HP Quality Center as part of an integrated platform for agile development.  With this integration, agile teams:

  • Create tests in Quality Center from tests defined in VersionOne
  • Update the VersionOne Test status from the corresponding status in Quality Center
  • Create defects in VersionOne from defects in Quality Center
  • Mark defects as fixed in Quality Center when the corresponding VersionOne defect is closed

Perforce SCM System
The VersionOne Perforce Integration (V1Perforce) creates a record of Perforce changesets in VersionOne, enabling the development team to quickly view all of the code changes for a story or defect. With each qualifying check-in, the summary information of the event (date, user, comment, Perforce reference number) is captured along with a link to the Perforce details. This allows the user to access and view file details, such as affected files and the specific changes made to those files. This information is useful when tracking down the source of a defect or performing code reviews.

Java Software Development Kit (SDK)
In addition to the .NET Software Development Kit (SDK) released earlier this year, VersionOne has just made available the Java version of its SDK. Leveraging the SDK, you can easily build custom integrations, utilities and widgets, extending the V1: Platform to meet your unique needs.  By providing “integration plumbing”, the SDK simplifies and speeds the process of integrating new functionality into existing environments, helping you gain greater value from your application investments.

Interested customers and partners can download the source code to further customize integrations for their unique environment.  Unlike other Agile tool providers, there are no hidden charges for use of the integrations, providing a much lower total cost of ownership.

System Requirements have been updated to reflect support for recent major releases of underlying components, including:
