Organizations Around the World Succeeding with Agile at Scale

ATLANTA – April 5, 2016 – VersionOne, the independent leader in agile lifecycle management solutions, has released the 10th annual  State of Agile Report. For ten years, the State of Agile survey has collected feedback from agile practitioners to help the agile software community scale agile faster, easier, and smarter. The report shares insights including the most popular agile tools, tips on scaling agile, and how to measure agile success.

The results of the annual survey make it clear that larger organizations are embracing agile. More than 24 percent of the respondents worked for organizations with over 20,000 employees, compared to 21 percent last year.

Organizations are scaling agile across teams and initiatives. While Scrum continues to dominate at the team level and at scale, the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) made a significant jump to become the second most popular scaling methodology, moving from 19 percent in 2014 to 27 percent in 2015.

The pool of talent and agile experience continues to grow annually. Once again there was an increase in the number of respondents who said they were ‘very’ to ‘extremely’ knowledgeable about agile, an increase from 58 percent in 2014 to 63 percent in 2015.

Agile is going global as the number of organizations around the world adopt agile. The number of respondents that worked in Europe increased from 21 percent to 26 percent. In addition, 18 percent of the respondents worked in Asia, South America, Oceania, and Africa.

However, most importantly, the survey highlighted that agile is helping to drive business success. More than 95 percent of the respondents said their organizations practice agile and said the top benefits of agile include accelerating product delivery, managing changing priorities, and increasing productivity. Only 1 percent of the 3,880 respondents said that their agile implementation was unsuccessful.

“The results of the 10th annual State of Agile survey highlight the continuing positive impact that agile is having on the organizations around the world” said VersionOne CEO Robert Holler. “Business leaders are making adopting agile a top priority because they are seeing successes with agile deployments at scale. Together we are continuing to learn and evolve our agile and lean practices to help drive business value, and progress is particularly evident in large organizations.”
